I have put this page together for those people wanting to find their way around Jersey (Channel Islands) using a Satellite Navigation Device and for pinpointing those out of the way places.

For those new to the island most visitor sites and places of interest are easy to find, and wherever you go on the island you can pick up some very good free road maps. Although the maps are very clear and easy to follow if you do go wrong it can be quite difficult as there are not many places on the Jersey roads to pull in and refer to them.

On our last visit in September 2012 we hired a car from Zebra Car Hire in Saint Hélier and used our 'Tomtom Go Live 550' to help find our way around the island and if ever you want to tackle the capitals (St Helier) one-way system it is a must, as it is a nightmare and for that reason alone a GPS device is a Godsend. For some reason Tomtom have not got round to updating the Jersey postcodes however in all other aspects their maps work well as all the roads are all mapped together with the correct street names. Therefore as postcodes don't work I have found using map coordinates the best method of getting around the island without getting lost. The object of this page is that I would like to share this information with those who are interested.

Please note this is still a 'Work in Progress', many of the coordinates have been tested but some may prove to be approximate. So please do not take these coordinates as factual as they are only my findings. If you type the coordinates into your satnav it should take you to your desired destination or try 'copy and pasting ' into Google Maps to give you an idea of the location.

By default TomTom uses degrees and minutes but if you type in the coordinates below (which are in minutes and used by Google Maps) there should be no problem although there is no facility for the + or - just make sure the readings are N & W. If you have not changed your default setting and want to take your own readings in 'Where Am I' it can be a little confusing as switching between different coordinates systems can give the impression of errors: it is just an approximation.To switch coordinates on your TomTom system just go in Main menu > Status and information > GPS Status > and tap Configure.
