Memories ......
Gordon (Snr) had a woodworking
shop on Nelson street, just a short distance
from Dereham road, on the left. We used to visit
Iris every Monday afternoon, and I often used
to pop round the corner to his workshop. It
was always knee deep in sawdust and shavings
and I can remember the smell even now. I used
to make 'airplanes' by nailing two bits of wood
together. After he retired from woodworking,
he and his wife moved to Hemsby where they lived
in a wooden chalet very close to the sea. Flo
was a large, nice lady who I believe survived
him.
Gordon F. W. Blythe,
uncle Gordon, was a lovely kind man as I am
sure you remember. He was a bricklayer and died
of Prostate Cancer. Despite the many many nieces
and nephews he had, he would always slip me
a coin or two with a wink and tell me to "be
careful boy" - Richard Waspe.
I beleive Gordon was a builder
- The thing I remember about Gordon is that
he used to drive a big American type car with
large fin like wings, I thought it was brilliant
and in the 50's very cool. - Ray Taylor
