Richard Luxton
1813 - Richard was baptised in Brushford on
April 18, 1813
Richard Luxton was the forth
son of George Luxton (1770 - 1848) and his wife
Elizabeth Wreford of Steers Cottage, Brushford
- Richard was baptised on April 18, 1813. He
was a 27 year old labourer when her married
Elizabeth Baker, 25, spinster, daughter of Richard
Baker of Wembworthy on August 17, 1841. The
1851 census records Richard aged 37, agricultural
Labourer living at his parents' old home, Steers,
Brushford, Elizabeth his wife was a 33 year
old weaver and their children were
Richards' niece Mary 10 and
nephew William aged 12 the children of his brother
John Luxton were living with the family
and his sister in law, Grace Baker, 25
unmarried servant. The family moved about 1855
to Moorend, Wembworthy and were still there
in 1881 when Richard, 71 farm labourer, and
his wife Elizabeth 69, was a charwomen. The
children had grown and left home. Richard was
a 77 year old pauper at 8 Four Ways, Eggesford
in 1891, living with his married daughter, Annie
aged 38 and her husband John Gough, a
34 year old sawyer and their family. Richard
Luxton of Moorend Wembworthy died aged 81
and was buried at Wembworthy on February 11,
1894. Elizabeth who died aged 82 in the Crediton
area in July/September 1898 may have been his
wife

a 22 year old bachelor labourer when he
married Sarah Bray Vernon 21, at
Wembworthy on December 12, 1864. George
signs the register and Sarah makes
her mark.Witnessed by: William Mitchell

29, agricultural Labourer, lived at Grove
Pad Cottage, Brushford, in 1871, with
his wife Sarah B. a glove maker
, born Ashreigney, and their daughters
Sarah 2 and Emily aged 2 months. The growing
family were living at New House cottage,
Coldridge in 1881, but were at Moorend,
Wembworthy in 1891. Sarah Bray Luxton
died in January/March quarter in 1902
in the Crediton Area. George death has
not been established but it thought if
it was the George Luxton, road contractor,
who died aged 76 on October 10, 1918 at
Highborough Farm, Sutcombe, leaving his
pony and colt and insurance policy to
his married daughter Emily Jane Gifford.

George Luxton (1873 - 1955) -
baptised at Wembworthy on March 9, 1873,
his parents lived a Lambs Cross, Wembworhy.
He married Elizabeth Landry form
North Hill, Cornwall and they had a
least 6 children. George who was a heavy
cider drinker moved jobs nearly every
year. In 1901 George and his wife Elizabeth
and 4 children were living at Newhouse,
Coldridge. The family were settled at
Labdon in Wembworthy, Cheldon c 1902
at Leigh in Chawleigh and Lapford after
1912. Elizabeth is said to have died
as a result of falling down stairs during
the war time blackout. The Lapford burial
register records Elizabeth aged 75 of
Forches, Lapford was buried on November
25, 1942. Her husband George Luxton
aged 81 of 8 Sidbury Place, High Street,
Crediton was buried at Lapford on Jenuary
26, 1955. The birth dates of their children
are taken from the Chawleigh School

joined the Devon Regiment on March 26,
1891. He was 5ft 2 inches with grey
eyes, light brown hair and weighed 121
llbs. A member of the Church of England,
his next of kin was his father George
Luxton of Lymington Cross, Wembworthy.
Army records produced in 1900 reveal
that he served in India.
