Emily Rosa Horne
had a drapery and haberdashery shop on what
is now the corner of Welgate Close
She also lived next door to
the Methodist Church on Dereham Road, she donated
the land to the right of her property for the
building of a stable to the Methodist Church
which is now the Methodist Church Room.
She was to become the guardian
of her neice Lillian Horne after Emily's brother
Frederick and his wife died (reason unknown).
Lillian was to marry Charles Smith and they
were to have one son 'Russell Smith' who became
a well known and loved resident of Mattishall
