On Friday 16th March at approximately 16.15pm
Coldridge lost one of it's very own. Local farmer
and and land owner Rodney (Rod) Stanbury sadly
passed away at home after suffering with aggressive
terminal cancer aged only 58. He was devotedly
nursed and cared for by his wife Christine.
He also leaves behind two sons Shaun and Carl,
daughter in-law Sarah and three young grandchildren,
mother Mary, brother Paul and wife Mary, sister
Jill and husband Louis as well as several nieces
and nephews.
Rod was a Christian man, and from the onset
of his diagnosis at the beginning of this year
he was gracious, dignified and a true witness
to his faith.
From a family point of view he was always there
for us, not only as a listening ear but would
willingly stop everything he was doing if he
thought he could be of any help to anyone. He
was full of fun and more often than not the
joker. Diplomacy was another of his virtue's
as he saw two sides to any argument and would
do his very best to keep the peace. He would
enthusiastically get involved in anything you
were doing and speared nothing in giving all
his love to his family and friends. We all loved
him very much, the initial shock from the first
day of learning of his illness, watching him
go through his awful treatment without giving
any complaints and now losing him at such an
early age has had a profound effect on us all.
He has left a big hole in all our lives that
can never be filled. - Ray Taylor.
A 'Celebration Service' of Rod's life will
take place at 14.30pm on Saturday 24th March
2012 at the:-
Jubilee Christian Centre, Cleaveanger Farm,
Coldridge, Crediton, EX17 6BE.
Rod is going to be laid to rest in Norfolk
on Thursday 29th March at 14.30pm, a decision
he made some years ago saying " only fair
darling you came to Devon for me and when the
time comes I want to go to Norfolk for you!"
Why Norfolk? - Chris was born in Mattishall
a small village in Norfolk where her family
and ancestors go back over 200 years as not
only business people but distinguished members
and preachers of the Methodist and later Evangelical
Churches. Rod will be finally be laid to rest
in the family plot it Mattishall Cemetery.
